Breakheart Pond
off Frosty Hollow Road, Exeter

 

With over 14,000 acres, the Arcadia Management Area is Rhode Island’s largest recreational area, and offers many opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating, fishing, and horseback riding.

The loop around Breakheart Pond is easy to follow and offers many wonderful views of the 44-acre pond. Several bridges cross streams and small waterfalls. Swimming is not allowed in Breakheart Pond, but fishing and boating are.

 

Length: 1.5 miles, with opportunity to extend
Difficulty: easy for kids

Dogs: are welcome, so long as they are leashed and you clean up after them
You might want to bring: binoculars for the view across the pond

Get directions or follow ours: From Route 3 South, make a right onto Route 165. There is a small brown sign for Arcadia before the turn, and a pizza place on the corner. Travel for 2.8  miles and make a right at the West Exeter Baptist Church onto Frosty Hollow Road. Travel 1.5 miles down this road, passing the Frosty Hollow trailhead on the right. Make a right and follow to the very end to the parking lot at the pond.
