Norman Bird Sanctuary
583 Third Beach Rd, Middletown

The NBS’s 325 acres and over 7 miles of hiking trails are well worth the few dollars they charge for trail use. The Welcome Center, Museum, and grounds are open 9am-5pm every day except major holidays. There is a trail fee of $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. Children under 3 are free. Members can hike the trails for free.

With ten different trails, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Quarry and Shady Glade Trails or hike the steep, rocky trail to the top of Hanging Rock. Either way, you’re certain to see or hear a song from one of the many species of birds who make their home there.

Get directions or follow ours: From the Newport Bridge, follow the signs to Fall River and Cape Cod. Take a left at the end of the ramp that faces the Newport Grand Casino and proceed about 3 miles through 4 stop lights. (At the fourth stop light, there is a 7-Eleven). Continue straight through the light to the four-way stop sign, and make a right onto Third Beach Road. NBS entrance is .75 miles on the right.
