Park at Cranston West High School (at the corner of Curtis St. and Metropolitan Ave.)

Join us for a free Family Nature Play Date (FNPD) at Meshanticut Park in Cranston. We’ll explore the critters on, in, and around the beautiful 12-acre pond, so be sure to wear boots and appropriate clothing! Kids love to get up close and personal with everything in the pond!

And you can earn 5,000 points through the Zoo’s Nature Swap. Participants in the program bring in natural “found” items to collect points for swapping with items in their collection.

To earn 5,000 Nature Swap Quest Points you must:

  • Attend the FNPDs in Meshanticut Park on Thursday, April 21, at 1:30pm.
  • Bring some sort of photographic/journal book evidence that you attended the FNPD to the Nature Swap in the RWPZoo’s Big Backyard children’s space. (Nature Swap hours are 10:00am–2:00pm daily.)

Nature Play Grant

For the second year in a row, the Roger Williams Park Zoo was one of the recipients of a Nature Play grant, which was developed by the Children & Nature Network (C&NN) and the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) through a special gift from the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. This grant allows us to offer free nature based play experiences in various parks, playgrounds, preserves, and other properties that are off zoo grounds–but easy to get to! Each FNPD includes a series of structured and unstructured activities focused on a particular wildlife theme and you’ll have tons of family fun–outside–for an hour or so. Each FNPD is also a Nature Swap “Quest” and allows participants to earn 5,000 bonus points in their accounts.
