Tom Harvey Rd and Newbury Dr, Westerly

This forested preserve has unique geological features and topography due to the glaciers in the area long ago. We will be hiking about 2 miles total, and taking a snack break at about the halfway point at the scenic “Charlie’s Overlook.”

Meet Jeanine Silversmith and Westerly Land Trust Executive Director, Kelly Presley, at the corner of Newbury Drive, just south of Tom Harvey Road next to the informational kiosk with a trail map. There are parking spaces outside the gate to Winnapaug Cottages and along the road.

And you can earn points through the Roger Williams Park Zoo’s Nature Swap program for attending the hike! Participants in the program bring in natural “found” items to collect points for swapping with items in their collection. To earn 5,000 Nature Swap Quest Points, attend the hike and then bring some sort of photographic and/or journal book evidence that you attended to the Nature Swap in the Zoo’s Our Big Backyard children’s space. Nature Swap hours are 10:00am–2:00pm daily.
