**Severe weather date, Sat. Jan. 19, 1-3 pm**
Neutaconkanut Hill, 675 Plainfield Street, Providence

Join the Founding Principal and Executive Director of a new public charter school coming to Providence, the Wangari Maathai Community School, on a family hike up Neutaconkanut Hill, Providence’s highest point!

Get a peek into the kinds of outdoor adventures that await your child at the new school. You and your kids will:

  • learn some basic tree identification
  • investigate and discuss how animals prepare for and live in the winter
  • learn a little bit about the history of the land

At the summit, enjoy views of the Providence city skyline and warm up with some hot chocolate, marshmallows and a small snack. All fitness levels/ages welcome. Please note, very young children and those with mobility challenges will face uneven ground in the woods and some steep areas. Please wear warm, comfortable clothing (lots of layers!) and non-slip walking shoes.

Please note that this is not a RI Families in Nature hike. For more information, contact the Wangari Maathai school. Get directions here.
