RI Families in Nature is very proud to announce that we are partnering with the Roger Williams Park Zoo to offer more opportunities for families to experience nature and have fun – for free!
For the fourth year in a row, the Roger Williams Park Zoo was one of the recipients of a Nature Play grant, which was developed by the Children & Nature Network (C&NN) and the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) through a special gift from the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. This grant allows us to offer free nature based play experiences in various parks, playgrounds, preserves, and other properties that are off zoo grounds–but easy to get to!
If transportation support is needed, please contact Samantha Polon at (401) 785-3510 x353 for information about FREE RIPTA bus passes.
Each FNPD is also a Nature Swap “Quest” and allows participants to earn 5,000 bonus points in their accounts through the Zoo’s Nature Swap. Participants in the program bring in natural “found” items to collect points for swapping with items in their collection.
To earn 5,000 Nature Swap Quest Points you must:
- Attend one of our hikes.
- Create a journal page with photos, drawings, descriptions, and/or anything else that describes your experience. Get creative!
- Bring your journal page to the Nature Swap in the RWPZoo’s Big Backyard children’s space. Nature Swap hours are Friday to Tuesday from 10:00am–1:00pm from April 1st through September 30th and Friday-Monday from 10:00am–2:00pm from October 1st through March 31st.
