Norman Bird Sanctuary
583 Third Beach Road, Middletown
The Norman Bird Sanctuary’s 325 acres and more than 7 miles of hiking trails are well worth the few dollars they charge non-members for trail use. With 10 different trails, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy a leisurely stroller- and wheelchair-accessible stroll or hike the steep, rocky trail to the top of Hanging Rock. Either way, you’re certain to see or hear a song from one of the many species of birds who make their home there. The Welcome Center, Museum, and grounds are open 9am-5pm every day except major holidays.
Length: 3.5 miles; up to 7.0 miles if you extend along the other trails
Difficulty: challenging for kids
Dogs: to protect the fragile ecology of the sanctuary, please leave your dogs at home
Stroller- and Wheelchair-accessible: yes, but only the first section of the trail
