You may know of the museum, water wheels, and mills here, but tucked into the back of the 23-acre Gilbert Stuart Birthplace & Museum property is a lovely nature trail. Enjoy beautiful views of the 57-acre Carr Pond and streams, scenic overlooks of the marsh, stone walls, historic cemeteries, and the chance to catch a glimpse of wildlife, including dozens of bird species. You can also stay for a guided tour of the gristmill and birthplace, which are included in the admission fee. The grounds and museum are only open early May through mid- October and hours are variable, so be sure to check ahead for days and times.
